30 Nov 2015
On Friday 20th November 2015, Taree Public School had our second Book Giving Assembly. Our participation in the Books in Homes initiative allows us to provide up to three quality books, for free, to the children at our school at a special assembly.
The majority of the cost to provide these books is funded by the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, and we are extremely grateful for their sponsorship. Their representative, Mrs Vanessa Byma, was a special guest at our assembly and presented certificates and books to the children.
The books that the children have to choose from are recent publications and include popular authors such as Nick Bland, Aaron Blabey and Sally Morgan. Series like 360 Black Ops, EJ12 Girl Hero and Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot, characters such as Pig the pug, factual texts about sharks and spiders and conservation, family Aboriginal themed books. There are 40 books to choose from and the school receives a copy of each book for the library. What great resources for everyone at our school!
Reading certificates were awarded to Megan Baxter, Valerie Whitaker, Lachlan Noble and Kayla Hills. Certificates were also awarded for participation in the Role Model competition. Thank you to all the children from Year 2 to Year 6 that entered and to Ms Hooke for organising the entries.
Thank you to the parents, carers and grandparents who came along to the assembly on Friday. It was an extremely hot day, so thanks for leaving the comfort of your home to be present at our special assembly. We do enjoy your company!
